Kuwait Port Authority to develop logistics cities project

The Kuwait Port Authority (KPA) is expected to award the design study and consultancy contract for its estimated $ 400 million logistics cities project covering the ports of Doha, Shuwaikh and Mina Abdullah by the first quarter of 2022 , said two sources familiar with the details of the project.

The first source said business offers were submitted by Gulf Consulting Engineers House, SMEC International, Dar Al Handasah Consultants (Shair & Partners), Dar Al Soor Engineering Consultants, House of the Arab Office for Engineering Consultation and Proyapi Engineering Consultancy.

“The evaluation of the bids is currently underway and the contract award is expected in the middle of the first quarter of 2021,” the source said.

He said a total of seven bidders, including those mentioned above, were prequalified for the tender.

KPA has multiple storage areas outside the three ports totaling 1,887,355 square meters (m²), the second source said.

These include:

• 270,000 m² located to the south-east of the port of Doha
• 300,000 m² south-west of the port of Doha
• A total area of ​​317,355 m² (south of Jamal Abdul Nasser Street) in Shuwaikh
• Total area of ​​1,000,000 m² (near King Fahad Bin Abdul-Aziz highway) in Mina Abdullah.

The scope of the project also includes smart ports, solar powered warehouses, measuring stations, waste management systems, packaging, collection, transportation, recycling facilities and associated utility works, as well as the development of part of the entertainment and tourism areas with shopping centers, restaurants, food courts, cafes, shops and offices.

The project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025, the second source concluded.
